Why convert JPG to PNG?
JPG and PNG save pictures in different ways. JPG throws away a little detail to keep files small, which is great for photos. PNG keeps every pixel exactly as it is and can have a transparent background, which suits logos, screenshots and graphics with text.
One thing to know: converting a JPG to PNG does not bring back detail that the JPG already lost, and the PNG file is usually bigger. People mostly convert because a program or website asks for PNG, or because they want to edit a picture many times without losing more quality.
Good to know
A 2 MB JPG often becomes a 6 to 10 MB PNG. That is normal. If file size matters most, keep the JPG.
