How are percentages worked out?
A percent is a part out of 100. To find A percent of B, multiply B by A and divide by 100. So 15% of 200 is 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30.
To find what percent A is of B, divide A by B and multiply by 100. For percent change from A to B, take the difference B − A, divide by A and multiply by 100. To raise B by A percent, multiply B by 1 plus A ÷ 100.
Example
With A = 15 and B = 200: 15% of 200 is 30, 15 is 7.5% of 200, 200 increased by 15% is 230, and 200 decreased by 15% is 170. The change from 15 to 200 is +1,233.33%.
