Public Holidays by Country

Pick a country and a year to see its national public holidays, the day of the week each one falls on, and how long until the next one. The list is fetched live, so it stays current without anyone editing it.

Good to know

Holiday dates come from a third-party service and are for general information only. Dates can change, are sometimes announced late, and may differ by region, employer or religion. Confirm any date that matters, such as for travel, payroll or deadlines, with an official government source before you rely on it.

What it does

  • 200+ countries and territories
  • Any year from 1975 to 2075
  • Local name and English name for each holiday
  • Next holiday and how many fall on weekdays
  • Updates itself, free, nothing stored

How to use it

  1. Choose a country (we pick yours if we can).
  2. Type the year you want.
  3. Read the list, the count and the next holiday.

Where does the list come from?

The holidays come from Nager.Date, a free and open holiday service. Your browser asks it for the chosen country and year each time, so when a government announces a change, the list follows without us doing anything.

The tool shows national public holidays. Regional ones, such as those that apply only to one state or province, are left out because they are not the same for everybody. India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are not in Nager.Date, so for those four we read Google's public holiday calendars and show only the days it marks as public holidays, not optional festivals. Some holidays are set late, by moon sighting or by a government notice, so always confirm important dates with an official source.

Example

Choose Germany and the current year, and you get the national holidays, such as New Year's Day and Christmas Day, with the weekday for each. The tool also tells you how many of them fall Monday to Friday, which is what matters for planning time off.

Questions people ask

Does this list update by itself?
Yes. It is fetched live from the Nager.Date service each time you choose a country and year, so nobody has to update it by hand.
Where do the holidays for India come from?
Nager.Date has no data for India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Pakistan. For those four, a small service on our own server reads Google's public holiday calendars once a day and passes on only the days marked as public holidays. Optional and regional festivals are left out, and dates that depend on the moon can shift by a day, so check the official gazette.
Are regional holidays included?
No. Only national public holidays are shown. A holiday that applies to one state, province or region is left out.
Can I rely on future years?
Treat dates far ahead as a guide. Some holidays are announced late or moved by law, so check the official calendar before you book.
